Foraging and growing blackberries and raspberries

We live right on the edge of an ancient forest that teems with blackberries, (as well as all of the hedgerows within a minute’s walk of our house) – and we have our secret patches right off the beaten track, where we collect ours at the end of August every year.   So since we have blackberries for free, and we have very little space to grow in, we’ve opted to grow raspberries in our own veggie plot.  We ordered a bare root plant from a seed company and were a little worried that it wouldn’t survive, after a week-long delay with the courier – but this morning we’ve happily spotted the tiniest sign of a bud, so we’re hopeful it will make a full recovery.
